σαρωνίς
Appearance
Ancient Greek
[edit]Etymology
[edit]According to Strömberg, from σαρῶνες (sarônes, “net of hunters”), which remains unconvincing in spite of the parallels adduced. The word has been connected with σορωνίς (sorōnís, “old silver fir”); since the variation α/ο cannot be explained, it must be assumed a Pre-Greek origin.
