[edit]From σαββᾰτῐ́ζω (sabbatízō, “I keep the Sabbath, I observe the Sabbath, I sabbatise, I sabbatize”) + -ῐσμός (-ismós, verbal noun suffix), from σάββατον (sábbaton, “Sabbath”), from Hebrew שַׁבָּת (shabát).
