A Semitic loanword, found as Aramaic סָסָא / ܣܳܣܳܐ (sāsā, “moth”), Hebrew סָס (sās, “moth”), Akkadian 𒌨𒈨 (sāsum, “moth”), Arabic سُوس (sūs, “moth-worm”).
