[edit]Etymology
[edit]The formation is like other plant names, such as μάνυζα (mánuza), μώλυζα (mṓluza) and ὄρυζα (óruza). The assumption that it was formed from κονίς (konís, “nit”) is unwarranted. According to Beekes, the variations point to a Pre-Greek origin.
