[edit]From Proto-Hellenic *tʰeh- (the root of θεός (theós)) + *-sp- (zero grade of the root of ἐνέπω (enépō)), from Proto-Indo-European *dʰéh₁s (“deity”) and *sekʷ- (“to say”) respectively.
