[edit]Presumably a Semitic borrowing, deriving from Akkadian 𒂁𒆗𒉡 (/dannu/, “storage vat mostly for storing beer and wine”), also found as Ugaritic 𐎄𐎐 (dn, “vessel, vat”), Aramaic דַּנָּא / ܕܰܢܳܐ (dannā, “wine jug, vat”) and Arabic دَنّ (dann, “wine jug”).
