[edit]According to Beekes, definitely from Pre-Greek, but compare Sanskrit गर्गर (gárgara, “whirlpool, eddy, churn; water-jar”) and Latin gurges (“whirlpool, eddy”). Compare also κορκόδρυα (korkódrua, “drain”) and κορχυρέα (korkhuréa, “subterranean drain”).
