Etymology

From Proto-Indo-European *h₂sowsos, from *h₂sews- (to be dry). Cognate with Old Church Slavonic соухъ (suxŭ, dry), English sear (dry, withered), Sanskrit शोष (śoṣa, dryness).[1]
