[edit]From Proto-Iranian *ājāta-,[1] from the past participle of Proto-Indo-Iranian *ȷ́ánati (“produce, beget, give birth”), from Proto-Indo-European *ǵenh₁- (“to produce, beget, give birth”). Compare Avestan 𐬁𐬰𐬁𐬙𐬀 (āzāta, “noble”), Middle Persian ʾcʾt' (/āzād/, “noble, free”), Parthian 𐭀𐭆𐭀𐭕 (ʾzʾt /āzāt/, “noble”).
