Ancient Greek
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Probably from Byzantine Greek σούδα (soúda, “trench, ditch”), later "stronghold" (presumably of knowledge), the variant title Σουΐδας (Souḯdas) being the result of an error made by Eustathius of Thessalonica, who mistook the title for the author's name.[1][2][3]
