Etymology

From δόσις (dósis, gift) +‎ θεός (theós, god). For the semantics, compare Θεόδωρος (Theódōros). Possibly a Calque of Biblical Hebrew נְתַנְאֵל (nəṯanʾēl) borrowed as Ναθαναήλ (Nathanaḗl).
