[edit]From Proto-Polynesian *kite (compare with Hawaiian ʻike, Maori kite) from Proto-Oceanic *kita (with infix of -i-) from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *kita (“to see”) (compare with Tagalog kita).[1]
