[edit]From Proto-Polynesian from Proto-Oceanic *keli (compare with Samoan ʻeli and Tongan keli) ~ *kali (compare with Maori kari)[1] from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *kali₂ (compare with Malay gali).[2][3] Doublet of ʻali.[1]
