Western Yugur

Etymology

[edit]

Inherited from Old Uyghur 𐽰𐽶𐽷𐽶 (éki, iki), ultimately from Proto-Turkic *ẹk(k)i.

Initial fricative sound is a remnant of the older variant form iʂgi, where it is presumably the left-over of the gemination present at the Proto-Turkic stage.
