Etymology

From șchei, plural of șcheau (Slav, Bulgarian), from Late Latin sclavus or Latin Sclavus, from Byzantine Greek Σκλάβος (Sklábos, Slav). A similar meaning can be found in its German name, Belgerei and its Hungarian name, Bolgárszeg.
