From Ashokan Prakrit *𑀛𑀸𑀝𑁆𑀞 (*jhāṭṭha, hair). Cognate with Savi [script needed] (žāṭ, hair), Palesi Shina [script needed] (žaṭh, goat's hair), Kashmiri زَٹھ (zaṭh, combings), Hindi झाँट (jhā̃ṭ, pubic hair).
