From Ottoman Turkish شكلسز (şekilsiz, “shapeless”), equivalent to şekil (“shape, form”) +‎ -siz.

1. without pictures, diagrams or drawings
2. without a definite image or form, shapeless, amorphous
3. unpleasant in appearance, ugly
