Etymology

[edit]

Inherited from Old Polish słodzona. According to Boryś, the expected form śleziona with secondary -dź-, perhaps under the influence of the forms słodzona and *słodzina, resulting from association with the root of słodzić (to sweeten) and słodki (sweet).[1] More likely is the contamination with śledź (herring).[2]
