[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish چقرق (çıkrık, “spinning wheel; capstan; jenny”), from Proto-Turkic *čığrık or *čıkrık (“something which revolves”), ultimately from Proto-Indo-Iranian *čakrám (“wheel”).
