çîn

From Wiktionary, the free dictionary

Northern Kurdish

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Akin to Central Kurdish چین (çîn), perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *kʷey-. Chyet suggests a loan from Russian чин (čin) instead, but the fact that it doesn't exist among Caucasian Kurds is puzzling in that case.

Pronunciation

[edit]

Noun

[edit]

çîn f or m

  1. layer, stratum
  2. social class
