Etymology

Ultimately from Latin Ī̆talia, from Ancient Greek Ῑ̓ταλίᾱ (Ītalíā), from Oscan 𐌅𐌝𐌕𐌄𐌋𐌉𐌞 (víteliú, land of bulls), a name for the southwestern tip of the boot of Italy.
