[edit]From Old English *wrappan, *wræppan, from Proto-Germanic *wrappaną (“to wrap”), from Proto-Indo-European *werb- (“to bend, turn”).
Akin to Danish vravle (“to wind, wrap”), Middle Low German wrempen (“to scrunch the face”). Compare also Middle English wlappen (“to wrap, fold”). More at lap, envelop, develop.
