[edit]From an earlier form of trīgintā (“thirty”) + -iēns. Compare Ancient Greek τριάκοντα (triákonta) and Sanskrit त्रिंशत् (triṃśát), from Proto-Indo-European *tri(d)ḱomt (“thirty”).
