Etymology

Singularized plural of *shtër-ez, based on *shtërë, from shtroj (cf. shtredhë). Alternatively from Proto-Albanian *steura, from Proto-Germanic *steuro (steering paddle, rudder, stern), from *steurjan (to steer) (cf. Old English stéor).[1]
