Calque of German Rechthaberei, compound of rätt (right) +‎ -s- +‎ hava (have) +‎ -eri (-ery). According to SO and SAOB attested since 1852.

The failure of justice sense comes from the surface analysis rätt (justice) +‎ -s- +‎ haveri (breakdown).
