Borrowed from Malay panji-panji, reduplication of panji, from Javanese ꦥꦚ꧀ꦗꦶ (panji), from Old Javanese pañji (a title), possibly from Sanskrit पञ्जी (pañjī, register). Compare Kapampangan pandi-pandi, Maranao pandi', and Tausug panji.
