[edit]From Proto-Finnic *nootta, borrowed from Proto-Germanic *nōtō. Cognate with Estonian noot, Ingrian nootta, Karelian nuotta, Livvi nuottu, Ludian nuot, Veps not, Võro nuut and Votic noottõ.
