Etymology

Cognate with Lithuanian nerštas, Latvian nārsts (spawning), Latvian nārstot (to spawn), from Proto-Baltic [Term?] and Proto-Balto-Slavic *nerṣ-t-. Compare Russian нерест (nerest), Proto-Slavic *nerstъ.
