Inherited from Proto-Slavic *naglъ. Cognate with Bulgarian нагъл (nagǎl, insolent, impertinent), Slovene nágel (sudden, rash), Russian на́глый (náglyj, insolent, impertinent), Slovak náhly (sudden). Compare Gothic 𐌰𐌽𐌰𐌺𐍃 (anaks, sudden), Sanskrit अञ्जसा (añjasā, immediately).
