From Malay nadi, from Sanskrit नाडी (nāḍī, blood vessel), नड (naḍá, a species of reed), a corruption of नद (nadá, river; penis), Sanskrit नदी (nadī́, flowing water, river), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *nadíH, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *nadíH (river), perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *ned-ih₂, from *ned- (thundering, roaring, rushing) +‎ *-íh₂.
