From Dutch marinier, from French marinier (“bargeman”), from Middle French marinier, from Old French mariner.

- (military) marine:
- a soldier, normally a member of a marine corps, trained to serve on board or from a ship
- a marine corps.
Usage notes[edit]
The literal translation of "marinier" is marine. However, an Indonesian "marinier" follow the definition of Dutch "marinier", which is an elite fighting force, unlike the US Marine.
