[edit]From Old Irish íasc,[1] from Proto-Celtic *ɸeiskos, from Proto-Indo-European *peysk-; compare fish, Latin piscis. The Brythonic words (Welsh pysgodyn, Breton pesk) are loanwords from Latin.
