  1. (slang, military) The extraction of military forces by longer-range vehicles (helicopter, boat, armoured personnel carrier) whilst under fire from enemy forces.
  2. (slang, by extension) The process of rescuing a friend or colleague from an awkward situation, such as an unsuccessful date.
