  1. primary school (mainly UK, Australia and South Africa) or elementary school (mainly Canada and USA); in Sweden a 10-year compulsory school generelly from late-August that year the children turn 6 years to early- or mid-June ten years later, in Finland a 9-year compulsory school normally beginning around age 7 (although even esikoulu/förskola the last year before 1st grade has been compulsory since August 2015, but is not part of the compulsory school in Finland, as opposed to Sweden, where the "grade 0", officially called "preschool class/grade" or in Swedish förskoleklass, has been part of the compulsory school since August 2018)
