From Old Danish feet, cognate with Norwegian Bokmål fett, Norwegian Nynorsk feitt, Swedish fett. From the neuter form of the adjective fed (fat, obese). It may also be a loan from Middle Low German vet from Proto-West Germanic *faitid.
