Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Germanic *furhiją (“forest of firs”), from Proto-Indo-European *perkʷ- (“tree, oak, fir”). Cognate with Old High German forst (“pine wood, pine forest”), Old English fyrhþ (“wooded country”). More at forest.
