Etymology

[edit]

Probably from Greek φάρμακο (fármako), from Ancient Greek φάρμακον (phármakon); compare the Romanian farmec, which came through a Latin intermediate. Alternatively, it is derived from the Latin term pharmacum, but this is less likely.
