From German Beton, Yiddish בעטאָן (beton), Polish beton, Russian бето́н (betón), Italian beton, all borrowed from French béton, from Latin bitūmen (bitumen, pitch). Compare Hungarian beton, Portuguese betão, Romanian beton, Greek μπετόν (betón).
