Dutch

Etymology

[edit]

Traditionally considered a compound of beeldje +‎ -s- +‎ koop (stem of kopen (to buy)) (in which case it would be an exocentric compound, with an unusual head), but considered a univerbation of beeldjes +‎ koop based on the slogan beeldjes te koop (“statuettes for sale”) by the WNT.[1]
