[edit]From Hindi भंडसाल (bhaṇḍsāl), from Sanskrit भाण्डशाला (bhāṇḍaśālā): भाण्ड (bhāṇḍa, “goods”) + शाला (śālā, “house, building”). Altered by folk etymology in English after bank, hall.
