From Malay alpoekat, probably influenced from an archaic word of Sundanese alpoekat (advocate), from Dutch advocaat.

Possibly from Arabic الْأَفُوكَاتَة (al-ʔafūkāta, avocado) or corruption of Dutch avocado.
