Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Germanic *Wēlanduz, *Wēlandaz, from *Wilą-ndz (literally “crafting one”).[1] Cognate with Old English Weland, Welund, Old High German Wiolant, Old Frisian ᚹᛖᛚᚩᛞᚢ (weladu /Welandu/) and others.
