Welcome

[edit]

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

re:sarlugo

[edit]

Thank you for reminding me. Bolango is indeed such a language with small number of and hard-to-find references. Since as far as I know there is no any dictionary yet about that language, I'm afraid I could not provide a proper reference for that. However, a journal article "Tipologi Bahasa Bolango ditinjau dari Pembentukan Kata" (Bolangese Tipology from the Point of View of Word Formation) published by Universitas Sam Ratulangi in North Sulawesi has two mentions on sarlugo which means "water". Meanwhile, in a 1986 dissertation "Rekonstruksi Protobahasa Gorontalo-Mongondow" by Hunggu Tadjuddin Usup from Universitas Indonesia it is said "salugo" in the appendix. Maybe dialect?

Even so, there are some references (other than dictionaries) about Atinggola dialect, one of major dialects of Bolango, in my campus library. I would inform you whenever I find those sources & put them as references in case non-dictionary sources are allowed. Thank you. NoiX180 (talk) 00:23, 5 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

I have checked Struktur Bahasa Atinggola (Atinggola language structure). The language has no clear orthography yet. The case is in /rl/ sound. It's always written /R/ (capital) in the book & different with /r/ (small). I put "sarlugo" here because somebody from Atinggola wrote that way, I assumed it's commonly written that way there, though "salugo" may be considered more appropriate here given the dissertation I mentioned above. What's your suggestion? NoiX180 (talk) 03:17, 17 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Mangue word for water

[edit]

I remember you being interested in words for water in different languages. I recently learned that in Mangue, an extinct language of Central America, the word for water is nimbú, according to this source, page 18. I thought you might be interested to know. —Granger (talk · contribs) 23:14, 1 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Mx. Granger thank you very much. I had not found yet this language. It is now added to my list :) Pamputt (talk) 07:08, 2 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
