From earlier Totka [tuːtka], from Old Norse Þotka, related to Totak. The name of the municipality is derived from the river’s name.

  1. A municipality of Telemark, Norway, formed after merging of Mo and Lårdal herads in 1964.
  2. A river in Telemark, Norway. The river is running through this municipality from lake Totak down southwards into lake Bandak. The administrative center of the municipality, Dalen, is located on the mouth of this river.
