Missing noun sense
[edit]What missing sense is this? Equinox ◑ 16:25, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
- 1906, Edith Nesbit, The Railway Children, Chapter 4: The engine-burglar,
- "You're a naughty little gell, that's what you are," said the fireman, and the engine-driver said:—
- "Daring little piece, I call her," but they made her sit down on an iron seat in the cab and told her to stop crying and tell them what she meant by it.

Perhaps it’s a contraction of ‘piece of work‘ (or just an example of sense 15, an obnoxious person)?Overlordnat1 (talk) 00:34, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
Baseball usage notes
[edit]Would anyone actually think that it meant the ball was going to break into pieces? The note hardly seems necessary. Equinox ◑ 16:40, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
"A separate performance"
[edit]Chambers 1908 has a sense that we don't: "a separate performance". This can't be the "amount of work to be done at one time" (since that's covered under a different sense in Chambers), but could perhaps relate to theatre etc. Equinox ◑ 04:37, 15 September 2019 (UTC)

opinion/statement/speech
[edit]As we have [[[piece (third-person singular simple present says one's piece, present participle saying one's piece, simple past and past participle said one's piece)]], we could have a related definition where ‘piece’ refers to a spoken opinion or statement, perhaps?Overlordnat1 (talk) 01:12, 15 July 2021 (UTC)
