This sounds a lot like Slavic jezik (tongue).

Yes, except that the -ik is not part of the root word. The -ik is like English -s or Slavic -т (eats, ест). The Hungarian root is only esz-, which is actually much closer to Slavic ес- and Germanic ess-. —Stephen 22:29, 14 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
