Talk:clergy

How does the IPA pronunciation differ so much from the rhyming? Either the IPA is wrong, or the word's pronunciation is very irregular. Please, help. Ferike333 16:43, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
Etymology
[edit]Etymology looks odd; cleric is given as the Old English for clergyman; clergie/clergié is attested in Old French sources. I'd be very surprised if this etymology were entirely accurate; perhaps it is from Old English not Old French, but is it derived directly for the word for a 'clergyman'. Plural
[edit]Although clergies exists, it's usually "the clergy" (plural); need to indicate this in en-noun somehow. Equinox ◑ 19:09, 9 June 2017 (UTC)
