Egyptian Etymology

[edit]

I've read somewhere an alternate etymology: that it derives from the Egyptian word for Egypt (Khemt) because chemistry was practiced in the Temple of Ptah at Memphis. Is this just a folk etymology? — This comment was unsigned.

Could be. See Douglas Harper (2001–2024) “chemistry”, in Online Etymology Dictionary.. DCDuring TALK 02:57, 21 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

better living through chemistry

[edit]

Conceivably worth an entry: it's an old ad slogan that has since been used humorously in reference to recreational drugs and so on. See the Wikipedia article. Equinox 21:17, 19 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
