Sources for adjective meaning
[edit]Could sources for the definition of the adjective-meaning be provided. please? I cannot find the word under either of the specified adjective meanings in the Oxford English Dictionary, and would like to know whether they really can be used out of colloquial context, or, more precisely, in official or scientific language. Thankful, --131.130.95.192 15:36, 27 October 2014 (UTC)
- The adjective can be found in the Chambers and Merriam-Webster dictionaries. It is not marked as informal or non-standard. I'm very surprised if it's really not in the Oxford Dictionary. Equinox ◑ 15:41, 27 October 2014 (UTC)
Used adverbially in first example?
[edit]Isn't borderline used adverbially in the first example ("He is borderline hypoglycemic and needs to monitor his sugar intake.")? It modifies an adjective (hypoglycemic) rather than a noun in this case, and adjectives are modified by adverbs, not other adjectives. 92.109.227.50 16:49, 23 November 2017 (UTC)
- I agree.Jonteemil (talk) 14:26, 2 May 2019 (UTC)
- I’ve added an adverbial sense.Jonteemil (talk) 14:33, 2 May 2019 (UTC)
adjective: nearly
[edit]The entry of nearly says it's just an adverb, so why is it shown in the adjectival definition of borderline? --Backinstadiums (talk) 13:02, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
