How are the sentence connectors "Although, though, and however" used in face saving mechanism?
Pronounciation
[edit]My Longman dict gives the pronounciation of although as /ɔːlˈðəʊ/: with a long o in the first syllable, but the emphasis on the second. The pron currently in the article gives a short o. I won't change it now, but somebody please check if the short o is correct. – b_jonas 13:10, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

- The only pronunciation with which I am familiar in the UK has a long O. I note that someone has changed the US pronunciation to have a long O as well since b_jonas' comment. I've left the rfp in place for now. Thryduulf 22:27, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- The General American dialect has no contrastive vowel length. I can find no evidence for vowel length variation in this word for UK pronunciation, so I'm killing the template. —Leftmostcat 02:30, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
adverbial use
[edit]Do not use the conjunction although as a substitute for the adverb however. However is used to add contrasting and surprising information, and, unlike although, is followed by a comma when it is used as a conjunction, e.g., We were from different backgrounds. However, we got along really well and We got along very well, although we were from different backgrounds. Microsoft® Encarta® 2009

Most people in attendance applauded loudly after the performance, though (not although) not everyone
[edit]When though introduces only a part of a clause, although is not possible: Most people in attendance applauded loudly after the performance, though not everyone --Backinstadiums (talk) 17:47, 31 July 2021 (UTC)
- Nah, both sound fine to me Queenofnortheast (talk) 18:12, 31 July 2021 (UTC)
